IDOLS AND IDOLATRY
Money, religions, cars, motorcycles, athletes, musicians, actors, sports, men, and women. These are just a few of the things people of today are worshipping. Exodus 20:3 says: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me” Before we get saved, there is an empty space in everyone’s heart that cannot be filled by any other except God. If we are saved, the emptiness that we had in our heart, is no longer there. When a person is not saved, he or she resorts to the weak and beggarly elements of the world to try and fill that void in their heart. I know of several people who, before they got saved, worshipped many different things. One of those people loved and worshipped motorcycles; in this, the devil had him bound. Another brother, before he was delivered, had idol of musicians and music. One other loved alcohol and was in bondage to the devilish rock-n-roll music. Then Jesus set them both free and saved and delivered their souls from sin. In another case, one had such a love for drugs and fast cars, that in the end, it almost cost him his life.
One of the main things that the devil has deceived and cursed this world with today, is religious idols. There are many false religions today that are idolized as well as false prophets and false christ. The so-called religion of today is a disgrace in the eyes of God. Idolatry is not only a sin, but an abomination to God. This is such a wicked and perverse generation in the world today, that the devil has the majority of people worshipping and serving various idols and false gods. Nothing but serving and worshipping Jesus Christ in Spirit and Truth, will profit anyone in the end.
To give you a better understanding on what idolatry is, here is the definition as given in the Webster’s dictionary. “The worship of a physical object as a god. Immoderate attachment or devotion to something.” The reason religion in general is such a reproach to God is because they label God as a physical object and/or being when in reality He is Spiritual. Just as there is only one faith, one baptism, and one mediator, there is only one God, Ephesians 4:5,6. There is only one true and living God of creation. If you love, worship, or serve any other than the Almighty God, you are an idolater. If you are an idolater, you shall not inherit the Kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21.
We can safely say that anything we love or think of as being more important than God, is an idol. The good news is, there is a way out of the bondage of idolatry. If you will only surrender your life to the Almighty God, God of Heaven and Earth, and do His Holy Will, He will save your soul. He will deliver you from sin and all unrighteousness, and place you on the straight and narrow highway of holiness that goes to Heaven. I John 1:7; 2:6. Remember, our souls are too valuable to lose by worshipping false gods and worldly idols. I John 5:21 says, “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen?
