DRAWING POWER
John 12:31-33, “Now is the judgment of this world, now shall the prince of this world be cast down. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth; will draw all men unto me. This he said signifying what death he should die.” Herein lies the drawing power of the church, or the drawing power of the plan of salvation. Now Leviticus 17:11, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it to you upon the altar; to make an atonement for your souls: For it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”
Hebrews 9:22, “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood. And without shedding of blood is no remission.” And without the sacrifice of the Lamb of God on Calvary’s Cross whose blood made the great atonement for the souls of men, there is no drawing power in the church. And in many churches and congregations, there is no drawing power, because they have by-passed the Christ of Calvary. In most congregations where we still believe in the “lifted up Christ of Calvary” and His atoning blood, we don’t have as much drawing power as is needed to reach the souls of men. I believe it is because we don’t preach enough of the blood of the atonement. This is the central and life-giving power of the Gospel, and we need to lift it up as such. We preach the one church - the gathering of God’s people - divine healing - the new birth - sanctification - the Revelation message - and the other truths of the Gospel. These must be preached for they are a part of the Gospel, but without the blood, they are lifeless.
Revelation 22:1, “And he showed me a pure river of water of life; clear as crystal proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb,” When Christ is mentioned in the scripture as the Lamb, it always points to His sacrifice; making a blood atonement.
Rivers run in channels. The channel of this river from the throne of God comes by Calvary where the Lamb of God was lifted up.
Acts 20:28. The scripture says the church was purchased by the blood of Christ. Without the blood, there is no church. When it comes to the doctrine, the blood of the Lamb is the heart of the doctrine.
Like a great magnet draws steel, so the Christ of Calvary, the Lamb that was slain to make an atonement, is the great magnet that draws men to Him.
“And I, if I be lifted up on the earth, will draw all men unto me.”
