What The Bible Teaches About Homosexuality

The laws of God governs every part of our life.

If we do not submit to the laws of God, if we transgress the laws of God, there is a consequence. No person can ever escape the consequence of disobedience to the laws of God.

2 Corinthians 5:10

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Contrary to the modern, popular religious beliefs, we will be judged, every one of us, according to the deeds done in this body. On that final judgment day which is surely coming, we will be judged by the word of God, the gospel of Jesus Christ and the understanding we have of what is right and wrong. If we have done evil, we will be cast into hell. If we have done righteous, we will inherit eternal life in heaven.

Romans 1:26-28

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Paul condemns the homosexual life-style. When men leave the natural use of the woman and burn in their lust one toward another, it is unseemly (which means indecent and shameful).

Genesis 18:20

And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

Let me quote from the “Black’s Law Dictionary, Third Edition.”

Sodomite: One who has been guilty of sodomy.

Sodomy: A carnal copulation by human beings with each other against nature, or with a beast. “The term is often defined in statutes and judicial decisions as meaning “the crime against nature,” the “crimen innominatum,” or as carnal copulation, against the order of nature, by man with man, or, in the same unnatural manner, with woman or with a beast.” “The sexual act as performed by a man upon the person of another man or a boy by penetration of the annus.” “The term might also, without any great violence to its original meaning, be so extended as to cover the same act when performed in the same manner by a man upon the person of a woman.”

Church of God ministers have always held and taught that oral and anal intercourse are unnatural and constitute the sin of sodomy. Regardless of whether the oral or anal sexual act is committed upon the person of a man or woman, it is sodomy. When heterosexuals do the same unnatural acts which homosexuals do, the sin of sodomy is committed.

Genesis 19:5-9

5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.

6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,

7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

This is the scriptural and historical reference for the sin of “sodomy.” Sodom and Gomorrah were wicked cities given over to the terrible sin of homosexuality. Because of their wicked perversions, God destroyed these two cities with fire and brimstone. Henceforth, this sexual perversion was called “sodomy.” The term “homosexual” is of very recent, modern day coinage. It does not have quite the same shameful expression as “sodomy,” “catamite,” or “effeminate.” Our society has made significant progress in removing the sinful shame of this sexual perversion. However, God has not changed. It is still an abomination, a hateful thing, in the eyes of God.

Deuteronomy 22:5

The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

God has always been opposed to the mixing of sexual identity. He does not want men to dress like women or women to dress like men. He does not want men to act like women or women to act like men. He does not want men and women changing their God-ordained roles in life. God has designed a specific structure and design for the society of mankind. To violate the will and ways of God is to commit sin. Willful sin results in spiritual death, which is separation from God.

Leviticus 18:22

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

The word abomination means “hateful.” For a man to sexually “lie” with another man is an abomination, a hateful thing, to God.

Leviticus 20:13

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

The penalty for sodomy, a homosexual act, was physical and spiritual death under the Old Testament Law. Although God has removed the command to physically execute death to those who commit sins worthy of death, there remains the spiritual penalty which is spiritual death, spiritual separation from God. Under the gospel of Jesus Christ, the New Testament, an “effeminate” person, which is the same as a “homosexual” person, can not inherit the kingdom of God. You can not be a Christian and commit any willful sin, homosexual sins included.

I Corinthians 6:9

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate nor abusers of themselves with mankind. Please note the following definition of “effeminate.”

Strongs Exhaustive Concordance of the Hebrew/ Greek languages. Ref. #: NT:3120 malakos (malak-os’); of uncertain affinity, soft, i.e. fine (clothing); figuratively, a catamite:

The Greek word "malakos" which means soft, fine clothing was used to identify a person who was a “catamite.” The Webster’s dictionary is very discrete and brief in its definition of the word “catamite.”

CATAMITE, n. A boy kept for unnatural purposes. Historically, sodomites, catamites, homosexuals were so shameful and “in the closet” with their evil deeds that these terrible acts were only perpetrated upon the person of young boys who were more defenseless and vulnerable. However, as society weakens and becomes more permissive and accepting of sexual perversions, men and women become more public with their wicked behavior. They are free to seek out consenting adult companions who share their sinful lusts.

I Timothy 1:9-10

9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

The word “whoremongers” as it is used in the Greek language specifically identifies a “male prostitute.” It is speaking expressly of those who are guilty of sodomy, those who defile themselves with mankind.

Conclusion:

Homosexuality is the sin of sodomy.

Homosexuality is an abomination to God.

Homosexuality is a sin which must be repented of and ceased from in order to be saved as a child of God.

No homosexual, sodomite can inherit the kingdom of God or have a hope of eternal life in heaven.

Counsel:

If you are a homosexual in heart or in practice, repent of this evil and wicked lust of the flesh. Ask God to forgive you and deliver you from the bondage of homosexual lust. Manifest to God a broken and contrite heart, repent and return to God, sin no more. Once you have received forgiveness from God, you are no longer a homosexual. Once you are forgiven, your name is written in the Lamb’s book of life, you are a child of God. As a child of God, divine grace will be imparted to you and by the power of this divine influence you will be able to say “No” to Satan’s temptations to disobey the laws and commandments of God.
