Tract Number 230 Audio download at bottom of page ----------------------- "The Good Old Days" Many are the interesting conversations as we hear people refer to the “good old” days, when there were more signs and wonders, miracles, etc., wrought among the saints, or in the Church of God. Among the saints, there are some who were saved many years ago, and really have been eye witnesses to God’s gracious dealings in the Church of God. Some were saved later and have had more recent experiences. However all are good to hear about, but we note the fact they still remember well the miracles and the past blessings of the former years, but seem to forget the spiritual standard that was held in those days. Consequently, they wonder why there are so few miracles wrought today. As an example: One sister who had passed her eightieth birthday, told about the time when she had been an instrument in the hands of the Lord for divine healing. She trusted the Lord in sickness and prayed the prayer of faith for others. It was encouraging to hear about the good that had been done during her healing ministry. But she said in later years, when she became faced with the responsibility of taking a job, trusting God for her body was too slow a process. Evidently, this sister had fear of losing her job. Strangely enough, persons like this sister are among those who love to talk about the “good old” days and wonder why there are so few miracles wrought today. The Bible is full of precious promises for his saints. It also contains the conditions that must be met, in order to obtain those promises. Jesus said, “Walk while ye have light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth,” John 12:35. The person who fails to walk in the light of the gospel as it is shed upon his pathway, will eventually drift into darkness, while forgetting what manner of person he was. Deuteronomy 4:9 reads this: “Only take heed to thyself and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life ...” Spiritual blindness differs from natural blindness in the respect that a naturally blind person might remember much of what he once saw, such as beauty, ugliness, places and people. Furthermore, the naturally blind person might be able to describe clearly, many things he has seen, while the person that is blind spiritually only remembers such things as miracles, the places wherein the miracles were wrought, and those who prayed the prayer of faith, but the beauty of salvation that brought down God’s power, so that He could work, those miracles and the ugliness of lowering the standard which prevents him from working miracles, they forget. Professing to be saved and sanctified while walking back of known light is shaky ground on which to look for miracles. Being the Church must come first, people!! Here we are out here nearing the end of this Seventh Seal age, with many active church members (not God's people) who are not about to give up their TV sets. It matters not to them how often the pastor or the evangelist preaches about its evil effect upon the members and their children. The sisters, many of them continue wearing skirts that expose their knees and leg dimples (behind the knee). There was a time when a sinner would have had more respect for the saints and the standard they held than to have made an appearance in any of the congregations or upon any of the camp grounds dressed the way some of the sisters are dressed today. Some of them are seen around the altar working with souls improperly dressed. Some skirts are barely below the knee. Some have been seen around the altar with skirts above the knee while the ministers preach. In view of such conditions, reader, if you still wonder why there are no more miracles wrought today. Read James 1: 22-25, “...Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your ownselves. For if any man be a hearer of the word and not a doer he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass; for he beholdeth himself and goeth his way and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the word, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” So, we see by God’s own hand what happens to those who are forgetful hearers. The blessings of God are not promised to those who hear and forget. Forgetful hearers do not have faith, nor do they keep an experience with God. Sadly enough, a great number of this kind of persons are active church members. The end result of too much hearing and too little doing is downright rebellion. So reader, beware. If you are not a forgetful hearer, God bless you. If you are a forgetful hearer, why not repent, and do your first works over. Revelation 2:5, “Remember therefore from whence thou are fallen, and repent, and do the first works.” “Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts...” Malachi 3:7. Hosea 6:3, “Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord; his goings forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.” Unknown
