Tract Number 161 Audio download at bottom of page ___________________ W. W. J. D. What Would Jesus Do? By Sister Denise Nyenhuis Today many people desire to follow the fad. Bracelets adorn the wrists with the letters, W W J D. T shirts portray nail pierced hands, a cross, and red drops of blood. The words “What would Jesus do” are written in bold lettering. This saying comes from the book “In His Steps” written by Charles Shelton. Let us share with you the plot of this story. Church members volunteer to commit themselves to do exactly as Jesus would do for one year. Their commitments caused them to make life changing decisions. The majority of those who volunteered made it a life-long commitment. Are you among those wearing the symbol? This is my burden for you. Have you truly volunteered to “commit” to do what Jesus would do? Nothing pleases God more than to know we are fulfilling the scripture, 2nd Peter 2:21. This scripture is the basis upon which the statement W W J D is built. “For here unto were you called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that ye should follow his steps;” What would Jesus do? It is more than a question. It is a life to follow. Certain actions, thoughts, attitudes, and characteristics are portrayed in the flesh by Jesus. We should have these same virtues and do as he did. Read with me, to see the example Jesus left for us to follow. Verse 22 says, “...Who did no sin.” If Jesus did no sin, then neither should we. Paul, a faithful follower of Jesus, asks you and I in Romans 6:1, 2, “Shall we continue in sin?” His answer “God forbid.” It was unthinkable for Paul to continue in sin and follow the steps of Jesus. But you cry, “I can’t help but sin.” Look at Jesus, what did your example do? Hebrews 4:15 tells us, he was in “all” points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” As we follow in the steps of Jesus, we will be tempted. But we do not have to sin. W W J D, he did not sin. In verse 16 we find the answer. “Let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” When we are tempted, God can, and will supply the grace we need to overcome the temptations to commit sin. (Hebrews 2:17) He has promised with every temptation, he will make a way of escape. (1st Corinthians 10:13). Jesus is the son of God, we through salvation become sons of God. Jesus, while on earth, wanted to be like us, his brethren. Why? To prove to each one of us we could follow him in every way and do no sin. Remember your commitment W W J D. No sin! Matthew 1:21 “...he (Jesus) shall save His people from their sins." John 8:34 “Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.” 1st Corinthians 15:34 “Awake to righteousness and sin not.” Romans 6:12; Romans 8:3; 1st Timothy 5:20; Hebrews 10:26; 1st John 3:4-10.
